Wrest Point Hotel Casino stands on the water at 410 Sandy Bay Rd in Sandy Bay, Hobart, overlooking the River Derwent and kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Rooms

Rooms are spread over three parts of the property. The Wrest Point Tower has Deluxe Harbour rooms facing the River Derwent, Deluxe Mountain rooms facing kunanyi / Mount Wellington and the city, a Deluxe Accessible King close to reception and the Harbour Suite, which measures 60 square metres and has a separate lounge, a walk-in wardrobe and a separate shower and bath. Twin rooms have a queen bed and a single bed. Water Edge rooms are in the historic Riviera wing, a short walk indoors from the tower, and overlook gardens and the river; the Water Edge King measures 30 square metres. The Motor Inn is on the mountain side, a short stroll from the main tower by an undercover walkway. Rooms come with free Wi-Fi, free car parking, a minibar and in-room dining.5, 6, 7, 8

Dining

Wrest Point lists five restaurants and four bars. The Point Revolving Restaurant serves French-inspired dishes 17 floors above the River Derwent and is open from 5.30 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday. Longhorn Smokehouse is an American-style smokehouse, Kwan Ho serves Sichuan, Shanghainese and Cantonese dishes, the Boardwalk Bistro has indoor and outdoor seating with foreshore views, and the Boardwalk Café serves coffee, pastries and sandwiches on the waterfront. The bars are the Birdcage Bar, which also serves high teas, The Green Room Bar, open every Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m., the Casino Bar with River Derwent views, and the Boardwalk Bar. Breakfast and dinner can be served in the room.9, 10, 11

Wellness and leisure

The Wrest Point Health Club is on the lower ground floor of the tower. It has a heated indoor pool, a 10 metre hydrotherapy pool, a paddling pool for infants, a spa hot tub, saunas and a gym with exercise machines, cycles, treadmills and free weights. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., entry is free for hotel guests and pool towels are provided.9

Getting there

Tourism Australia gives the distance from Hobart Airport to the city as 18 km, with hire cars, rideshare services, taxis and a SkyBus shuttle to the city centre every 30 minutes. Wrest Point has free car parking, including a multi-storey undercover car park, valet parking for 20 Australian dollars per night per car and electric vehicle charging for a fee. The property also has a private pier where ferry transfers can be arranged for groups.9, 17
