Funchal: Hotels & Evening Entertainment

Funchal is the capital of Madeira and, in the words of the Madeira tourism board, the archipelago's tourist, cultural and commercial centre. It lies in a bay on the island's south coast, on a slope shaped like a natural amphitheatre, and has been a city since 1508. Casino da Madeira stands five minutes from the centre, in a complex based on an idea by the architect Oscar Niemeyer that it shares with the Pestana Casino Park hotel.
