Overview

Resort Barrière Ribeauvillé is a four-star hotel in the heart of Alsace, set between the vineyards and the Vosges mountains. Barrière describes the building as modern, with large bay windows. The casino belongs to the same property: in the hotel's words, Casino Barrière Ribeauvillé is "situated within the Resort Barrière Ribeauvillé", and the group presents the resort as one complex made up of a hotel, a casino, a balneotherapy centre and spa, three restaurants and two bars. Hotel and casino share one address on the departmental road 106, and the restaurant La Brasserie sits between the two. The resort and its pools are heated with biogas, which Barrière says comes from a neighbouring methanisation farm.^{1, 3, 4, 6, 11}

Barrière's fact sheet counts 53 rooms and 2 suites; the hotel's website speaks of 56 rooms and suites. Superior rooms measure 27 square metres, with a king-size bed, a walk-in shower and a balcony, and come in three versions: countryside view, garden level and vineyard view. The Vineyard View Suite measures 54 square metres and has two balconies, a dressing room and a bathroom with a bathtub. Decor is contemporary, with large bay windows, designer furniture and raw wood.^{2, 9, 11}

Dining

La Brasserie serves cooking drawn from Alsatian traditions, under chef David Meyer. It opens for dinner from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and until 10.30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays. Le Belvédère serves salads, pasta and poke bowls composed to order, without a break from noon to 8.30 p.m. every day and without reservation; the choice is reduced from 3 p.m. Balnéo guests may eat there in swimwear with a bathrobe or bath sheet. Le Café des Sports, inside the casino, is open from noon to midnight and until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.^{4, 6, 7, 8}

Wellness and leisure

The Centre Balnéo has three pools. The Lac des Sens has waterfalls, geysers and more than 120 water features; the Lac du Silence is an overflow pool with underwater music; the Lac des Cratères is outdoors, with counter-current rivers and whirlpool alcoves. There is also a sauna, a hammam, a snow shower, a 300 square metre rest room and a landscaped sun lawn. Hotel guests can use the Balnéo from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; outside visitors are admitted from 10 a.m. The spa has five treatment rooms and is open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., by reservation only.^{1, 4, 5}

Getting there

The hotel quotes train journeys of 2 hours 30 minutes from Paris and 30 minutes from Strasbourg, and drives of 1 hour 15 minutes from Zurich, 3 hours 30 minutes from Lyon and 4 hours from Geneva. The reception can arrange a private transfer from the nearest airport or station if asked at least 24 hours ahead; a charge may apply.¹

Good to know

• Check-in is from 3 p.m. and check-out at noon.¹

• The hotel says its services are mainly intended for adults. Minors may use the Balnéo only if they are taller than 1.50 metres and accompanied by an adult, and may not use the sauna or hammam. The casino is reserved for adults who are not barred from gambling.^{1, 4}

• Swim shorts are not allowed in the Balnéo, only swim briefs and swim boxers. The sauna and hammam area is mixed.⁴

• Secure parking is free for hotel guests. Pets are accepted at extra charge, on conditions to be checked with the resort. Baby cots are available; extra beds are not.¹

• The Balnéo page announces a closure for draining from 12 November, with reopening on 20 November at 3 p.m.⁴
