Overview

MGM Grand, which its operator MGM Resorts International also calls MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, stands at 3799 Las Vegas Boulevard South, at the corner of Tropicana Avenue on the Las Vegas Strip. It opened on 18 December 1993 and has 4,762 guest rooms, 752 of them suites, in four 30-story towers that rise 280 feet (85 metres). The casino is part of the hotel itself: the resort's fact sheet lists a casino among the hotel's facilities, next to its restaurants, pool complex, spa, theatres and arena. The Nevada Gaming Control Board lists the gaming location as MGM Grand Hotel/Casino, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority files the hotel under casino resorts.1, 2, 5, 6

  • The casino is inside the hotel property; the fact sheet lists it among the hotel's own facilities.1

  • The MGM Grand Garden Arena, with 16,800 seats, hosts concerts, championship boxing and awards shows.1, 5

  • KÀ by Cirque du Soleil plays in the hotel's own theatre of 1,950 seats, with an international cast of 80 artists.1

  • The Grand Pool Complex covers 6.5 acres (about 2.6 hectares) with four pools, three whirlpools and a lazy river 1,000 feet (about 305 metres) long. It keeps seasonal hours.1

  • A bronze lion 45 feet (about 13.7 metres) tall stands on a pedestal at the front entrance, at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. The resort calls it the largest bronze statue in the United States.1

Hotel details

Rooms

The hotel counts 4,762 guest rooms, including 752 suites. SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand are 51 two-story lofts on the top two floors, and The Mansion at MGM Grand holds 29 private villas. Some rooms belong to the Restore by MGM category, fitted with air purification, aromatherapy and shower filters that reduce chlorine. The Signature at MGM Grand is a separate non-gaming, non-smoking hotel of three towers with 576 suites each. The visitors authority's listing notes in-room Wi-Fi, a safe, a refrigerator, a hair dryer and an iron.1, 5

Dining

Two French restaurants carry the name of the late chef Joël Robuchon: Joël Robuchon Restaurant, which holds two Michelin stars, and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, with counter seats around an open kitchen and one Michelin star. Other restaurants include Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak, Morimoto Las Vegas for Japanese cuisine, Hakkasan for Cantonese cooking, Emeril's New Orleans Fish House and Luchini for Italian-American dishes. Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill and TAP Sports Bar serve lunch and dinner, and there is a food court. The hotel's bars and lounges are for guests aged 21 and over.1, 3

Wellness and leisure

The Grand Spa covers 30,000 square feet (about 2,800 square metres) and has saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, relaxation lounges and 22 treatment rooms. The fitness center overlooks the pool complex. The Grand Pool Complex has four pools, three whirlpools, private cabanas and a lazy river, and is open seasonally.1

Getting there

The visitors authority's listing places MGM Grand 3 miles (about 4.8 km) from Harry Reid International Airport, at Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana. MGM Grand is one of the seven stations of the Las Vegas Monorail, where trains arrive every four to eight minutes. The Deuce bus stops at nearly every resort on the Strip, and taxis pick up at hotel taxi lines rather than on the street.5, 7, 8

Nearby

  • Topgolf, part of the resort, is a four-level golf entertainment venue with 120 hitting bays.1, 2

  • M&M's World, four floors devoted to the candy brand, is next to MGM Grand on Las Vegas Boulevard, and the two-story Coca-Cola Store is a short walk away, by the visitors authority's account.9

Good to know

  • The visitors authority's listing gives check-in at 3 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m. It is worth confirming the times with the hotel when booking.5

  • Guests must be 21 to check in, by the same listing.5

  • The listing shows a resort fee of 50 US dollars.5

  • The pool complex keeps seasonal hours and the lazy river is open seasonally, so it is worth checking before a visit.1

  • Guests under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at KÀ. Hakkasan Nightclub admits guests aged 21 and over; the Hakkasan restaurant has no age restriction.1
