Casino de la Vallée

Overview

Casino de la Vallée is the casino of the Saint-Vincent Resort & Casino, in the Aosta Valley. It opened in 1947 in the rooms of the Grand Hôtel Billia. Today, by its own account, it occupies two floors of a building that is directly connected with the hotel complex; the resort adds that the hotel complex and the casino are linked by an underground tunnel. The casino was restored and modernised as part of the resort project. There is a bar on each of the two floors, Bar Gaya and the Lounge Bar, and a restaurant in the basement, the Brasserie du Casino, which serves dinner from Thursday to Sunday between 7.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m.^{1, 2, 3, 6}

The casino opens at 10 a.m., seven days a week. Its website does not give a closing time.^{3, 4}

Admission

Entry is always free. Visitors show a valid identity document to receive an entrance ticket. The casino's southern car park is free.^{2, 3}

Age and identification

Entry is allowed only to adults who have turned 18. A valid identity document is required to obtain the entrance ticket.³

Dress code

Visitors must be properly dressed, and a cloakroom takes coats, jackets, hats, bags and umbrellas. The ground floor has no further restrictions. On the first floor, slippers, sandals, undershirts, sports shorts, bermuda shorts and tracksuits are not allowed. In the private room on the same floor, men must also wear long trousers.³

Licence and regulation

The casino and the two Billia hotels are run by Casino de la Vallée S.p.A., a company with public shareholding whose majority stake is held by the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley. The company traces the casino to a decree of 4 April 1946 that authorised its opening, and says the company itself was set up by regional law 36 of 30 November 2001, which it lists among the main regional legislation it works under. The casino states that it accepts formal requests from families to bar a person from the gaming rooms; its Customer Care office gives the details.^{3, 7, 8, 9}
